Conservation Values: Oak-hickory pine forests and streams, priority habitats per the GA DNR. Near several rare species and provides Bald Eagle habitat, federally/state protected and documented nesting nearby. Within the Oconee River basin, it contains tributaries that flow into Lake Oconee, part of the 220-mile Oconee River that provides drinking water. It's within 5 miles of 2,500 acres of protected land in the National Forest. The area offers forest views from county roads linking the lake and I-20.
